Indoor work, especially office and computer jobs, require good vision at intermediate and near distances; your eyes have to move quickly from one range of vision to another.
Any of the following eye-related complaints can be symptoms of computer vision syndrome (CVS):
- Eye strain
- Headaches
- Blurred vision
- Dry or irritated eyes
- Neck and back pain
- Sensitivity to light
- Double vision and "after images"
This complex group of symptoms can be caused by poor lighting, improper viewing distance, or minor vision problems not noticed previously.
Orthopedic problems such as back, neck, or shoulder pain may occur when glasses aren't fit properly. If lenses aren't positioned correctly for use at your workstation, you may be changing your posture in an attempt to correct the problem. People who complain of neck pain may be leaning forward or tilting their head back to see through the bottom portion of a bifocal or the center portion of a trifocal.
