What properties must the cable have so that you can use a video source other than the iPod?

A cable with a 4-pin, 3.5 mm jack plug is required for connection to the AV input of the cinemizer; this cable is not included in the delivery package. The side connected to the video source – such as a DVD player or another multimedia player – must be equipped with the appropriate connectors, e.g. cinch. AV cables compatible with the Creative Zen Vision M or the Archos 404, 504, 604 series, for example, can be used to connect a device with cinch ports to the cinemizer.

My cinemizer won't turn on. What do I do?

Ensure that the cinemizer is fully charged. When turning it on, hold the on/off button for at least 2 seconds until one of the two LEDs remains permanently illuminated. If both LEDs flash briefly, it means you have NOT turned on the cinemizer.

Can all video-capable iPods be connected to the
cinemizer?

Yes. The cinemizer is compatible with iPod touch, iPod classic, iPod with Video, and iPod nano (3rd Generation).

Is the cinemizer also compatible with the iPhone?

With the current connector, we do not recommend using the cinemizer with the iPhone as there is no official certification as yet. Compatibility to the iPod and iPhone is established through an authentication chip in the connector of the cinemizer. Currently, the cinemizer is certified for video-capable iPods and comes with a corresponding connector. There will be a corresponding connector and clip for the cinemizer as soon as certification for the iPhone is received.

Can the cinemizer also play movies from a computer?

If you would like to use a video source other than the iPod, you need a 3.5 mm, p-pin AV plug (see technical note, not included) and possibly a corresponding adapter cable, e.g. for the TV port of the graphic card on your computer. It is not possible to use a USB cable. An iPod should not be connected. You can also remove the iPod connector to get a flat battery box.

What is the resolution on the cinemizer?

Both displays on the cinemizer have resolution of 640 x 480 pixels.

Can eyeglass wearers use the cinemizer?

Yes. You can select a diopter setting between +3.5 and -3.5 on your cinemizer.

For which interpupillary distance (PD) is the cinemizer suitable?

The cinemizer is suitable for a PD of 5.9 to 6.9 cm. No adjustments or settings need to be made here. However, it is possible that a distorted visual impression results if the PD is extremely high or low, e.g. differences in brightness.

I have the feeling that the brightness of the two displays is different. Can this be set?

Setting is not possible: the displays are correctly aligned in the factory. The distorted impression can be due to the user’s specific PD.

Can I see anything through the video eyewear while I am using the cinemizer?

No. It is not possible to see through the glasses because the housing accommodates the optics and technology. You will only be able to look out below the lower edge of the glasses e.g. to operate the iPod.

Can I already buy the cinemizer?

The cinemizer will be available in Germany at selected GRAVIS outlets beginning in February/March 2008.

Can the cinemizer also be used for 3D stereo photos (i.e. not 3D videos)?

The cinemizer is designed to play moving images. Therefore, we must first gather more information on experiences with still shots.

The engineering team provided the following information:
Theoretically, it should not be a problem. The 3D mode on cinemizer is a 3D side-by-side setting.
The 3D impression is created when 2 images captured by two cameras positioned next to each other are observed separately. This should also work with still shots.

It should be easier to create 3D still shots than movies.

A promising method is presumably to cut the horizontal resolution of your single images in half and then store these two images next to each other as a single picture. Unfortunately, we are not aware of any software for this.

We do not take any responsibility for the information and tips. The cinemizer team wishes you much enjoyment while trying the system.

Which requirements must I observe to watch 3D movies?

The requirement for playback is the stereoscopic recording which can also be saved as an MPEG4 in accordance with the iPod specifications.

Furthermore, the 3D mode on the cinemizer is not a frame sequential mode. Instead, the images for the left and right eye are shown in one frame.

Therefore, the 3D mode on the cinemizer has the same frame rate as the 2D mode. The standard values here are 50 Hz for PAL and 60 Hz for NTSC.
The resolution of the cinemizer is native 640x480 pixels per LCD in each mode.

Is it possible to use cinemizer with a visual impairment such as macular degeneration?

The cinemizer is NOT a medical product intended to optimize the vision of patients with a visual impairment. The visual image of the cinemizer corresponds to an image on a 1.15 m display at a distance of 2 m from the observer. If a patient suffering from macular degeneration can satisfactorily view a 1.15 m image at a distance of 2 m, he can also use the cinemizer.

However, particularly for patients with macular degeneration, cinemizer does not offer the possibility of displaying an image so that it is reproduced outside the macula on the retina. Such video eyewear is still in the research stage, but these are not related to the cinemizer.

My iPod charger has a USB port. Can I also use it to charge the cinemizer so that I don't have to leave my computer on for 2.5 hours?

Our official position on this is that chargers suitable for the iPod can generally also charge the cinemizer. Therefore, it should be possible to use your charger.
