The Sea of Tranquility
In 1969, millions of people around the world sat anxiously in front of their televisions as Neil Armstrong took the first steps on the moon. The crew of Apollo 11 used a lens from Carl Zeiss to take the first pictures from the Sea of Tranquility.

The dark side of the moon
The moon landing was not the only time that NASA relied on technology from Carl Zeiss:

With the PlanarŪ 1:0, 7/50 mm, Carl Zeiss developed and built the most powerful lens in the world. It made it possible to take pictures of the dark side of the moon for the first time.
