 | | Dr. Stefan Hell received the Carl Zeiss Research Award for his pioneering achievements in basic research and applications in the field of high resolution optical microscopy.
This, and laser scan microscopy in particular, has been a central theme of Dr. Hell’s scientific career. He has focused his attention on finding methods and ways of enhancing the resolving power of the optical microscope in order to expand its possible fields of application in the specialist areas of the life sciences.
Important scientific results and methods developed by him include the STED concept (“STimulated Emission Depletion“ Microscopy), 4π confocal microscopy and 3D resolution in the range of 100 nm. |
