Portrait: Prof. Dr. Ahmed H. Zewail Prof. Dr. Ahmed H. Zewail, Pasadena, USA, succeeded in making it possible to directly view the process of chemical reactions on individual molecules with maximum resolution in both space and time by the perfect combination of state-of-the-art molecule beam technology with ultrafast laser spectroscopy. This allowed him to gain access to the dynamics of elementary chemical reactions.
Portrait: Dr. Yoshihisa Yamamoto Dr. Yoshihisa Yamamoto, Tokyo, Japan, was honored for his pioneering basic research and applications work on radiation processes in microresonators and the generation of non- classical radiation. His achievements are of fundamental importance for communications with laser light.
