Photokina 1998
25t h Photokina—a new era has begun at Carl Zeiss Camera Lens Division

More than 30 new lenses were on display at the Carl Zeiss booth at Photokina ’98. Also there was a picture gallery showing color enlargements of stunningly sharp and clear aerial photos taken by Bernhard Edmaier, a geologist living near Munich, Germany. Edmaier took these photos of Hawaiian volcanos, Icelandic glaciers, African deserts, and many other subjects from low flying aircraft with Carl Zeiss lenses on Hasselblad cameras.

Hasselblad was also the camera of choice in Carl Zeiss’ digital studio at Photokina, where everone could have his or her portrait taken with a Hasselblad 553 ELX camera and a Carnival 2020 digital back from Color Crisp.

The new Carl Zeiss optics in detail:
  • Six medium-format lenses for the Contax 645 autofocus SLR system, which was also introduced at Photokina. All lenses for medium format Contax are T* multi-layer coated (Spec sheets are available from Carl Zeiss, see Publisher’s Imprint.),
  • CFi (= Central shutter and Focal plane shutter, improved), a new generation of ten medium-format lenses for the Hasselblad SLR system, all T* multi-layer coated, with improved brilliance and color saturation and further extended lifetime of the central shutter (Spec sheets are available from Carl Zeiss, see Publisher’s Imprint. Information is also available from the Hasselblad dealer nearest you.),
  • A high-performance super wideangle lens Carl Zeiss Biogon 4,5/38 T* with focusing helicoid and a special Compur shutter for ALPA of Switzerland (Information is available from ALPA, Capaul & Weber, phone: +41 1 383 92 22, fax: +41 1 382 01 80, e-mail: alpa@alpa.ch,
