Zeiss DigiPrimeŽ Cine Lenses Deliver Extreme Performance

In a January 2002 meeting with business partners at the Zeiss factory in Oberkochen/Germany Zeiss presented first pre-production units of the new DigiPrimeŽ lenses for digital cinematography and subjected them to demanding performance testing.

Size, shape, weight, scales and finish of these lenses created enthusiasm with the attendees of this meeting. The image quality of the DigiPrime lenses, as demonstrated in the Zeiss lab projection room at full aperture of T 1.6, exceeded all expectations. These new lenses are clearly the highest performing camera lenses Zeiss ever conceived and made. Their optical design is virtually diffraction limited, which means free of aberrations, even at the very wide aperture of f/1.5. At full aperture of f/1.5 the resolving power far exceeds 400 linepairs per millimeter.

The DigiPrimeŽ lens range with its focal lengths of 5 mm, 7 mm, 10 mm, 14 mm, 20 mm, and 40 mm will be demonstrated publicly at the NAB trade show in Las Vegas from April 8th to April 11th, 2002. Several sets of Zeiss pre-production DigiPrimeŽ lenses will be available to customers and directors of photography after NAB.
