Asdrubal Briceno
Ninth place went to Asdrubal Briceno from Venezuela. On a photographic foray through the streets of Caracas, Briceno came across these children playing. They were so engrossed by their game that they almost seemed to be in a different world. Briceno felt that these children playing on the streets of Caracas were the perfect representation of "The Pulse of the City", reflecting how people have to adapt their habits and interests to the customs of the city.
Briceno uses photography to express his personal take on the world. It is a medium that allows his thoughts to develop and unfold without constraint. That is why he prefers the discreet nature of rangefinder photography for his work. People come across as more natural and relaxed using this method, a factor that in this case helped Briceno to capture "The Pulse of the City".
