Spinal neurons cultured from neural plate stage Xenopus embryos were injected with the ratiometric cAMP indicator FlCRhR.
Images are pseudocolored surface plots of indicator fluorescence in which gold indicates the highest elevation of cAMP. Increases in [cAMP]i occur throughout the cell body, axon and growth cone at 4/hr, with a duration of 3 min, and are generated by specific patterns of Ca2+ spikes.
