| ConfoCor 2 is a perfect tool for the analysis of molecular interactions. Measurements require only small amounts of both interaction partners and are performed in solution within seconds, overcoming any drawbacks associated to the immobilisation of ligands, as often required to perform related studies with other methods like, e.g., biosensor-based approaches.
The one requisite is the availability of interaction partners that are amenable to covalent linkage of fluorescent groups. If only one of both ligands is labelled, you can perform classical FCS measurements with ConfoCor 2 and determine diffusion times, thermodynamic binding constants and on/off rate constants for the studied interaction. If both interaction partners are tagged with distinct dyes, you can exploit the full power of ConfoCor 2 and study interactions between any two binding partners without limitations imposed by too small a molecule size.
