JENA/Germany, 15.07.2008.
With software version 4.11, Carl Zeiss improves microscopic Elispot examinations for the testing of immunotherapies and the development of vaccines. In particular, immunologists, oncologists and pharmacologists working in tumor, AIDS and vaccine research, and those with routine laboratory applications, will benefit from the specific features of the KS ELISPOT and KS ELISPOT compact software. Version 4.11 has been tailored to AxioVision platform 4.7 and now also operates under Windows XP and Windows Vista. Furthermore, it permits well images to be automatically stored together with the regular data backup.

In addition to increased data security, the automatic storage of well images provides more convenience. Until now, users had to copy acquired images manually into a separate folder in order to prevent overwriting. Further features of KS ELISPOT 4.11 include the addition of neutral frames for single well images, thus improving spot recognition in border regions. Accessing stored images for re-evaluation can be blocked in the configuration file in order to prevent unintentional switching. Furthermore, the settings for the AxioCam camera are no longer displayed directly. This prevents the user from inadvertently switching to the binning mode and thus from recording images with reduced resolution. Current image analysis software, version 4.7, permits the evaluation of additional measurements, e.g. geometrical and densitometric measurements.
The Windows XP and Vista operating systems allow optimum use of new computer hardware and make extensive evaluations even faster. For example, the KS ELISPOT compact system combined with the Stemi 2000 C stereomicroscopes enables evaluation of a 96-well plate in less than four minutes. Depending on the magnification, this system used with the Axio Imager microscope reaches pixel sizes between 2.0 and 4.0 µm, thus guaranteeing the recognition of even minute spots. With Axio Imager, an AxioCam camera and appropriate filters it is also possible to use KS ELISPOT for the evaluation of fluorescence Elispots.
