On 1 May 2008 Ralf Klädtke became President and CEO of Carl Zeiss Optronics GmbH. The 44-year-old aerospace engineer has succeeded Dr. Armin Breinig, who left the company at the end of April.

Most recently, Ralf Klädtke was responsible for all German space security and defense programs in his position as Vice President Security & Defense Germany in the EADS Group. After graduating from the Officers' College of the German Air Force and completing his studies in aerospace technology at the University of the German Federal Army in Neubiberg, Klädtke initially worked as an armament and planning officer in the German Air Force Office in Cologne. From 1992 to 1996 he headed the department for space transport systems at the German Agency for Space Flight Affairs, known today as the German Space Agency (DLR). He was subsequently responsible for international space programs at MAN Technologie, Karlsfeld, Bordeaux and Houston.
