Sensor Technologies Business Unit
The Sensors Technologies Business Unit develops and manufactures thermal imagers, laser rangefinders, TV systems and image processing, that can be used by the military. With the 3rd generation thermal imagers, Carl Zeiss Optronics uses state-of-the-art technology to build on the success of preceding generations. As the developer of the first eyesafe laser rangefinders, Carl Zeiss Optronics is present with high-quality handheld lasers and laser components in many international programs.

The Business Unit also develops and manufactures optical and optronic subsystems. They help receive, transmit and analyse the information delivered by the electromagnetic spectrum. They cover the spectral range from x-rays over the visible up to the far infrared.

Ground Based Optronics Business Unit
Depending on customer specifications, the stabilised and unstabilised periscopes and platforms marketed here for land-based vehicles are equipped with night vision devices, laser rangefinders and TV cameras in addition to the optical direct sight. The PERI R12 is the first stabilised panoramic periscope in the world. The most important German armoured vehicles are equipped with periscopes from Carl Zeiss Optronics. With the development and production of the pilot run for the PUMA sighting system, Carl Zeiss was able to once again demonstrate its capabilities.

The years of experience in the military business have been transferred into the technology for border surveillance systems. We have made a name for ourselves in many countries as a leading systems provider for networked border surveillance systems.

ZEISS binoculars and sights are not only well-known in hunting circles. Many militaries use our day/night targeting optics on small arms. ZEISS sights and night vision attachments have been selected for the German “Soldier of the Future” program.
