Carl Zeiss has manufactured the WBG-X cooled thermal imager using common-module technology since 1979. There are still a large number of these devices in use. More than 10,000 have been delivered for various national and international programs.
- The German Army utilises the WBG-X in its Leopard 1, Leopard 2 and M48 main battle tanks; in the Marder and M113 armored vehicles, in the Luchs armored reconnaissance tanks, in the Jaguar anti-tank vehicle and in the HAWK anti- aircraft system.
- The German Navy has used the WBG-X since 1994 in electro- optical systems for ships (MEOS) and for stationary surveillance systems (EOBA), as well as in submarine periscope systems since 1998.
- The German Air Force has used the WBG-X in the ECR-Tornado since 1990.
- Common-module technology has been used in the first mobile infrared surveillance systems from Carl Zeiss Optronics since 1994 for border patrol.
The widely used WBG-X model for armored vehicles is used in Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Italy, Sweden, Greece, Spain, Canada and Austria. | |
