Boresighting Systems
Only precise targeting ensures the first hit
High probability of landing the first shot is extremely vital to modern military planning. This involves aligning the targeting instrument precisely to the weapon. Carl Zeiss Optronics Wetzlar GmbH has developed two boresighting programs to ensure this.

The SKS/SZR universal system was developed to inspect alignment to the shot path. It permits boresighting of various weapons systems to a remote target or a test target. A series of caliber bars covers the normal calibers; customised designs are available at any time. The SKS/SZR universal system must be aligned to the respective weapon barrel (manual self test) before it is used.

For the SKS caliber bars, a video boresighting system is available for larger calibers. A key advantage is the one-man operation via the control unit which also contains an integrated TFT monitor.

The precision special boresighting system was developed specifically for the Leopard 2. However, it can also be used for every other weapon system. This system permits boresighting using a remote target and collimator. It can be used by maintenance units as well as users. The advantage of the collimator alignment is the short distance in front of the barrel of the weapon. The caliber bars are centered with spreaders in the barrel of the weapon and are suitable for different calibers.

Only a special reticle, and possibly a different caliber bar, is needed for the different weapons systems. The collimator and the telescope can be used for all weapons systems. Leveling the vehicle is not necessary as it is possible to transfer the angle. Self-alignment is also not required.
