Due to its extremely wide angle of view of 110° (diagonal, on a full-format 35-mm camera), very high performance, low distortion and exceptional suppression of stray light, the Distagon T* 2,8/15 is an ideal lens for a wide range of photographic situations.
It is one of the few super-wide-angle lenses to feature a front filter thread that permits the use of a conventional screw-in filter (95mm). This offers photographers the opportunity to attach a ZEISS T* UV filter to effectively protect the distinctly convex front element of the lens against dust, marks and scratches.
The Distagon T* 2,8/15 also features an integrated lens hood around the front element to protect it against the undesirable effects of extraneous light. A detachable lens hood capable of this degree of protection would considerably increase the diameter of the front of the lens due to the bayonet mount or screw thread required.
To allow the use of slot-in filters, such as graduated filters or ND filters, in system filter mounts on the front thread of the lens, ZEISS now offers a conversion of the Distagon T* 2,8/15 to a version without the integrated lens hood.
The conversion involves the removal of the front section of the lens barrel with the lens hood and its replacement with a new section with only a filter thread. Converted lenses are returned with a screw-in aluminium lens cap to replace the original slip-on cap.
The use of a lens hood is no longer possible after conversion of the lens. The system filter holder or a compendium from a third party provider may then be used to provide protection against undesirable extraneous light.
The cost of the conversion by ZEISS Service amounts to 250 euros / 338 USD (plus VAT). The refund for the retraction of the components removed during conversion (front barrel section and front lens cap) is included in the price. The price also includes full functional and performance testing and, if necessary, cleaning of the lens. The modification will take approximately five to ten working days upon receipt of the lens by our service department in Germany. For US customers please add another 15 days for shipping and customs.
To take advantage of our conversion service, please send your lens to us directly or via your photographic equipment dealer. Please include a completed repair form with each lens you send to us:
