"As a leading company in optics, Carl Zeiss finds it particularly important to promote the education of up-and-coming scientists, primarily in the field of photonics," emphasizes Dr. Michael Kaschke, President and CEO. Promoting future scientists is anchored in the company statutes – a specification of Ernst Abbe who established the Foundation.
Close and good connections to the scientists and developers of tomorrow are vital to a high-tech company. Therefore, Carl Zeiss has provided funding of more than €500,000 up to 2014 to the Abbe School of Photonics at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena: for three doctoral scholarships, masters students, junior professorships and scientific programs. For the 100th anniversary of Ernst Abbe's passing in 2005, the company also sponsored a guest professor program for optics at the university.
The Carl Zeiss Foundation, the owner of the companies Carl Zeiss and Schott, uses the dividend payments from its companies to finance promotional activities at universities in Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Thuringia.
