Our entry program for ambitious young scientists

During the 12-month program, you will take part in cutting-edge R&D projects at multiple ZEISS divisions and sites. Once the 12 months are up, we will offer you a permanent position.

What you can expect & what you will be doing

The program starts every year in the fall. Participants will bring along their expertise and work side by side with top ZEISS scientists. Over the 12 months, you will delve into R&D projects at different ZEISS segments and multiple sites.

Key facts

Required qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent work experience in physics / mathematics / computer science with core expertise in one of the aforementioned areas
  • Experience with programming and development projects with Python, C ++, MATLAB
  • Enjoy an agile way of working in cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams
  • Passion for innovation and enthusiasm for bringing the latest technology innovations into practice

Importance of average grade

Grades alone are not the decisive criteria. The overall profile is important to us, so we'd love to learn what you’ve done besides your studies (e. g. work placements, part-time jobs, social engagement, membership in associations).

Location

It will take place at the ZEISS headquarters in the optical valleys of Oberkochen and Jena. If you’re coming from abroad, we will of course help you find accommodation. Assignments at our international sites are also possible.

Number of scientists hired each year

The number of candidates varies each year based on demand.

Length of the ZEISS Science Program

It lasts 12 months. During this time, you will switch departments every three to four months within the selected functional area. By the end of the program, you will have worked at two to four departments.

International candidates

The program is open to applicants from all over the world who fit the required profile. However, a potential offer always depends on approval for the German residence and work permit.

Remuneration

A competitive salary.

Working hours & vacation

The working hours are 35 or 40 hours per week. You are entitled to 30 vacation days per year.

Contract conditions

You will have a permanent contract with ZEISS.

Work experience at ZEISS

No former work experience at ZEISS is required, but familiarity with the company would be an advantage.
