German Optical Museum

Jena, Germany

The Optical Museum in Jena has been presenting part of the collection in a permanent exhibit since 1965 and features a replica of a historical workshop that showcases microscope manufacturing technology.

In honor of Carl Zeiss' 200th birthday in 2016, a decision was made to transform the Optical Museum into the German Optical Museum (German: Deutsches Optisches Museum, abbr. D.O.M.). Conceived as a research-oriented museum and modern educational hub, the goal is to make the German Optical Museum one of the world's leading facilities for optics and photonics.
