Prof. Reinstein graduated from Cambridge University, going on to study postgraduate qualifications including an MA, MB BChir and MD. Professor Reinstein is a GMC-registered specialist in ophthalmology in the United Kingdom, equally certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He is a subspecialist in cornea, and a formally trained specialist in refractive surgery. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist in the USA and Canada, and holds professorships in New York and Paris.

  • For nearly two decades, Professor Dan Reinstein has dedicated himself solely to Laser Eye Surgery. 
  • Prof. Reinstein has published more than 165 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, has written a textbook on SMILE and contributed or written 46 book chapters /published proceedings. He has also written more than 200 articles for the ophthalmic press.
  • During his career, Prof. Reinstein Since has delivered almost 1.100 lectures at scientific meetings for ophthalmic societies such as ESCRS, AAO, ASCRS on five continents and has been moderator or panelist for many years in same.

Dr. Daniel Senekal is a Graduate of the Medical School of the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
 
  •  After becoming a Fellow of the Colleges of Surgeons of South Africa, he completed his master’s degree in Ophthalmology with distinction at the University of the Free State. He also accomplished an advanced Refractive and Cataract surgery Post-graduate Diploma with distinction through the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, furthering his knowledge, expertise, and skills in laser and refractive surgery.
  • With more than 19 years’ experience in the field, he is a forefront advanced cataract and refractive surgeon and the President and Medical Director of Visionmax Eye Centre in Edmonton. During his career he has worked in several Eye Hospitals and has vast experience in laser vision corrective procedures using both the MEL® 90 excimer laser and the VisuMax® femtosecond laser, as well as clear lens exchange utilizing various presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses.
  • In addition, Dr. Senekal is a distinguished member of the International Refractive Community and clinical lecturer at the University of Alberta. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge and improving the quality of education of Ophthalmology Residents in Canada and South Africa. He dedicates his time to the development and advancement of the science behind refractive eye surgery and has conducted research and various outcome analyses, including studies evaluating the efficacy and predictability of PRK, LASIK, PRESBYOND® and SMILE®.

Dr. Frik Potgieter is a native of the Eastern Cape, South Africa and did his undergraduate studies at the University of Stellenbosch, where he qualified as a general medical practitioner in 1982.

  • During his 13 years serving in the military, he was afforded the opportunity to enter ophthalmology as part of the military’s specialist training program at the University of Pretoria and where he shifted his career towards anterior segment surgery, with specific interest in refractive surgery.
  • Dr. Potgieter was instrumental in the introduction of various anterior segment technologies into South Africa. He was among the very first in the world to perform the SMILE technique for the correction of myopia and astigmatism, which he introduced into South Africa in 2012.
  • Being a keen researcher, Dr. Potgieter has authored several articles in the popular ophthalmic press and peer review journals and contributed a chapter in a widely read textbook on LASIK surgery. For his work, he has received a number of academic honors and awards.
  • Dr. Potgieter is a member of several academic and professional societies and serves in a leadership role in some of these. He is a campaigner for the sustainability of private ophthalmology in South Africa and currently serves in the role of chairman of the board of the Ophthalmology Management Group and the interim board of the I-Care network of ophthalmologists in South Africa.

Amr Mohamed Al Amin, MD is executive manager and medical director of the Refractive Department at Al Mashreq Eye Center in Cairo.
 
  • He is a ophthalmology consultant with more than 15 years of experience in the anterior segment field. His focus is on corneal as well as cataract and refractive surgery. During his career, he has worked in several eye hospitals, where he has now performed more than 15,000 LASIK and PRK, 7,400 FemtoLASIK surgeries, and 5,400 SMILE Lenticule Extrations with SMILE. He is also highly experienced in the field of keratoplasty and ICR surgery.
  • Another of Dr. Al Amin’s main interests lies teaching and sharing his surgical experiences with young ophthalmologists. He not only provides hands-on training on cataract but also corneal refractive (Lenticule Extraction with SMILE, LASIK, PRK) and therapeutic surgery (PKP, DALK, ICR). He is furthermore involved in various courses provided by various ophthalmic institutes and eye hospitals.
  • Dr. Al Amin has delivered lectures at scientific meetings, both national and international, and is a member of ophthalmic societies such as the Emirates Society of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

  •  Special interests in cataract surgery with premium IOLs and implementation of the most advanced technology such as Femtosecond laser in cataract and refractive surgery. He performs a lot of complicated cataract surgery with Intra-Scleral Haptic Fixation (ISHF), together with iris repair and different techniques of pupilloplasty.
  • Concerned with different surface ablation profiles and Intra-Corneal Ring Segment (ICRS) for early and moderate cases of keratoconus, and different customized LASIK ablation profiles for refractive errors. Has 11 international peer-reviewed articles and presented more than 40 presentations in international meetings.
  • Board member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS) and got the award of achievement from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) in 2017

  • In the past years, Assoc. Prof. Hirnschall has given 125 talks at international conferences and meetings and published more than 85 articles and book chapters. He is reviewer for several renowned journals.

Dr. Riël de la Bat is an ophthalmologist at Kloof Eye in Erasmuskloof, Pretoria, South Africa.

  • Dr. Riël de la Bat has 16 years of experience working in the field of ophthalmology and has been in private practice since 2010. He initially worked and trained with Dr. Frik Potgieter at Optimed Eye and Laser Clinic before starting his own practice, Kloof Eye, in 2014. He offers comprehensive eye care in the anterior and posterior of the eye, which includes cataract, glaucoma, corneal, and retinal surgery.
