New Trifocal Toric Intraocular Lens from ZEISS Enables Optimal Vision at Near, Far and Intermediate Distances, also for Astigmatism

Carl Zeiss Meditec AG expands innovative IOL portfolio for microincision cataract surgery

At the summer meeting of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) in Amsterdam, medical technology enterprise Carl Zeiss Meditec AG is presenting the market's first MICS-capable preloaded trifocal toric intraocular lens: the AT LISA® tri toric 939MP. After the extremely successful introduction of the AT LISA® tri 839MP last year, ophthalmologists can now also offer cataract patients with astigmatism almost natural vision at near, far and intermediate distances without eyeglasses.

“With our now completed portfolio of preloaded IOLs, we are assisting ophthalmologists in also providing comfortable vision at near, far and intermediate distances to cataract patients with astigmatism", says Ludwin Monz, President and CEO of Carl Zeiss Meditec AG. He points out the increasing demand for intraocular lenses (IOL) in the premium segment. "More and more people want to enjoy as good visual performance as possible after cataract surgery. We are enabling our customers to provide every single patient with the best visual perception possible." As many activities in our everyday lives require good vision in the intermediate range, the lenses in the AT LISA tri family offer an extremely natural visual experience at this distance in all light conditions.

With the toric trifocal intraocular lens the company is expanding its offering of premium intraocular lenses. In 2012 AT LISA tri was successfully launched on the market as the first preloaded lens combining three focal points of different refractive powers. The toric version also offers these benefits, is suitable for microincision cataract surgery and, as a preloaded IOL in combination with the BLUEMIXS® 180 injector, enables easy, safe implantation. It is also available in the non-preloaded version 939M.

On the basis of the LISA concept and its product platform, AT LISA tri toric additionally offers very good light transmittance and features an innovative enhancement of asymmetrical light distribution: for the patient, this means very good visual performance also in difficult light conditions, the retention of contrast sensitivity and the reduction of halo and undesired glare effects, which is particularly important at night.
