Aspheric concepts for micro and standard incision

In a young eye, the corneal and crystalline lens aberrations tend to cancel each other. Based on this principle, the ideal IOL does not only yield low optical aberrations, but is also able to compensate for corneal aberrations, just like the natural crystalline lens.

Every eye is unique, therefore one optical concept that is suitable for all may be a compromise on visual quality. ZEISS hydrophilic aspheric IOLs are available in 3 different optical concepts to meet individual patient needs and restore excellent distance visual acuity and functional vision in all lighting conditions regardless of the corneal shape and previous interventions1.

Aspheric concepts

Aspheric concepts of the ZEISS CT ASPHINA are:

  • Abberration neutral: The ZEISS CT ASPHINA 409M/MP does not cause lens-induced spherical aberration.
  • Abberation correcting: The ZEISS CT ASPHINA 509M/MP corrects – in addition to the lens aberration – some spherical aberration of the cornea.
  • The unique hybrid aberration correction concept: The aspheric ZEISS CT ASPHINA 603P combines the advantages of both, negative spherical aberration lenses and aberration-neutral lenses enhancing contrast sensitivity while also demonstrating very low sensitivity to decentration and tilt. Featuring the patented ZO Asphericity Concept (ZO: ZEISS Optics), designed to compensate for a range of aberrations arising from different corneal shapes and lens misalignments. As a result, it provides better imaging quality for real-life conditions.

  • Have an anterior and posterior surface which flattens towards the periphery, creating negative SA
  • Are designed to offset the positive SA of an average cornea
  • Improve contrast sensitivity particularly when the pupil diameter is large (mesopic & scotopic conditions)
  • Induces negative aberration in order to compensate positive spherical aberration of the cornea
