Remote educational series

SESSIONS is a new remote educational series created specifically for Ophthalmology Residents. Held monthly, each session covers one topic in detail through case-based presentation and discussion. An esteemed faculty leads a content rotation of surgical, retina, refractive and glaucoma topics that come to life with clinical examples, technique, technology, pearls and pitfalls to elevate expertise.

This session covers preoperative planning including biometry, diagnostics, interpretation and planning cataract surgery. Emphasis is placed on the importance of accurate measurements for better outcomes as well as pearls on IOL selection.

Focus on Retina: OCT and OCT Angiography
Thursday, February 18, 2021. 5:30pm PT

This session demonstrates the clinical advantages of Wide-Field imaging with both retinal cameras as well as OCT-A for the detection and monitoring of retinal changes.

Focus on Refractive: Diagnostic Imaging
Thursday, March 25, 2021. 5:30pm PT

This session includes a variety of different diagnostic imaging including topography, OCT of the cornea and epi mapping, and central topography. Emphasis is placed on the importance of these images to obtain an accurate picture of the cornea to evaluate and plan the surgery accordingly.

Focus on Glaucoma: Optimizing Visual Field Usage

This session covers all you need to know about visual field testing, from how to read the printouts and understand Glaucoma Progression Analysis (GPA), to when to order the different test options and ways to improve your patient’s testing experience.

Focus on Surgical: Intraoperative Management
Thursday, May 20, 2021. 5:30pm PT

This session focuses on intraoperative tools to assist in cataract surgery including microscopes, nuclear disassembly, and toric alignment – including emphasis on identifying sources of residual refractive error to mitigate postoperative complication.

Focus on Retina: Widefield Imaging
Thursday, June 17, 2021. 5:30pm PT

This class covers the clinical use of OCT and OCT-A in the retinal clinic. Topics include OCT & OCT-A interpretation, change analysis to monitor progression in both AMD and DR, and Enface image utilization for both monitoring progression as well as surgical planning.

Focus on Refractive: Refractive Surgery
Thursday, July 15 2021. 5:30pm PT

This session covers the different types of refractive surgery such as LASIK, PRK, and SMILE and includes discussion around the pros and cons of each procedure. Patient management will also be reviewed, including matching the patient with the correct type of procedure and setting patient expectations throughout the patient journey.

Focus on Glaucoma: Maximizing OCT in Glaucoma

This session demonstrates the clinical utility of the OCT in glaucoma and glaucoma-suspect patients and covers uderstanding which imaging tests to order, how to interpret the reports, and the limitations of the devices.
