How the technology works

An excimer laser uses ultraviolet (UV) light with short wavelengths to emit a cool, non-thermal beam. Vision correction with this type of laser is frequently referred to as a cold ablation. As a surgical tool, it enables pinpoint application of short, high-energy pulses to reshape the cornea while, at the same time, preventing collateral damage to the surrounding tissue. Excimer units from ZEISS also offer the advantage of not requiring a high-voltage power connection. They can simply be plugged into a standard electrical outlet.
