ZEISS at Cell Bio Virtual 2021

Explore the Power of Possibilities
December 6 - 10, 2021

How does curiosity become possibility? It starts with you, when you take the first step toward discovery.

This past year has given us time to let curiosity build, perhaps you are on the precipice of something astounding. Use that mental vibration and apply it through the latest microscopy innovations to advance your research.

Think of the possibilities.

While we cannot be at Cell Bio 2021 physically this year, we have compiled several ways to help you realize the possibilities. Spend some time in our virtual 360° immersive booth, register for one of our webinars, and sign up for a live remote demo with our product experts.

As your partner, we believe that you are the power behind what’s possible.

Lattice Lightsheet 7 – Discovering the Subcellular Dynamics of Life

Rebecca Duffy, Ph.D., ZEISS

Did you know that traditional imaging techniques can influence the behavior of specimens due to phototoxicity, thus affecting the integrity of the results? In order to best understand the world around us it is necessary to observe microscopic specimens in as natural a state as possible. This requires a transition from imaging fixed to live specimens and expanding from 2D to 3D model organisms.

Traditionally utilized live cell imaging techniques such as classical widefield, confocal and spinning disk methods expose the sample to light both at the focal plane of interest and above and below it. With light-sheet microscopy light exposure is minimized by illuminating only the focal plane of interest. Lattice light-sheets are long thin light-sheets which minimize phototoxicity, improve signal to noise and deliver subcellular resolution. With the gentleness of lattice light-sheet microscopy it is possible to capture dynamics at previously unreachable combinations of acquisition speed and resolution over hours and even days.

This talk will describe how the ZEISS Lattice Lighsheet 7 makes long-term volumetric imaging of living cells with subcellular resolution possible without having to change your standard sample preparation protocols to accommodate the instrument. With automatic alignment and easy acquisition workflows, lattice light-sheet imaging is now as accessible as using a standard inverted microscope.

The ZEISS Correlative Cryo Workflow: Connecting Cell Structure and Function in the Near-to-Native State

Aubrey Funke, ZEISS

This talk will explore the ZEISS solution for uniting cell and structural biology across a seamless, easy-to-use cryo workflow that connects widefield, laser scanning (LSM), and focused ion beam scanning electron microscopy (FIB-SEM). Benefit from examination of cellular structures in their near-to-native state to answer fundamental questions on protein organization and function. The solution provides hardware and software optimized for the needs of correlative cryogenic workflows: from localization of fluorescent macromolecules with the unrivaled 3D resolution of the LSM and Airyscan detection to high-contrast volume imaging and on-grid lamella thinning with the outstanding sample contrast and targeted milling of ZEISS Crossbeam FIB-SEM technology. The streamlined workflow boasts high-resolution fluorescence imaging correlated with high-contrast volume imaging and 3D reconstruction while benefitting from the multipurpose capability for cryo and room temperature samples.
