Microsoft Windows 10 Upgrade Alert

Please Act Before July 29, 2015

All ZEISS microscope systems using the Windows 7 operating system are not compatible with the upcoming Windows 10 upgrade.

Upgrading your ZEISS system with Windows 10 could have negative effects, including complete system failure.

We strongly urge you to not upgrade your system with Windows 10 when it becomes available on July 29, 2015. To avoid any disruptions with your ZEISS system, please read below to learn how you can prevent the Windows 10 upgrade or cancel your Windows 10 upgrade reservation.

Prevent the Windows 10 upgrade from downloading onto your system

A recent windows upgrade added an application that offers the upgrade to Windows 10.

Since KB3035583 was released as an Optional or Recommended update based on your operating system, it might not be installed if you avoid those types of updates. If that is the case, then you have no further action to take.

However, if you did install that update then it can be uninstalled through Windows Update.

 

Step 1. Open up Windows Update and click on “View update history”.

 

Step 2. Click on “Installed Updates”

 

Step 3. In the search box in the upper right corner type in “kb303558”. If the update is on your system it will show up in the results.

 

Step 4. Click on the KB3035583 entry in the search results and you will be asked if you are sure you want to uninstall it. Click “Yes” to remove it

 

Step 5. The system may need to be restarted to complete the removal. Restart your computer if prompted to.

 

Step 6. If you do not want to see the update any more be sure to hide it by right clicking on the KB3035583 listing in Windows Update and selecting “Hide this update”.

Canceling your Windows 10 upgrade reservation

If you have signed up for the upgrade, you should cancel your reservation before July 29 to avoid the push upgrade from Microsoft which is currently scheduled on this date.

 

Step 1. In the System Tray on the bottom right hand corner, look for the “Get Windows 10” icon, as shown below.

 

Step 2. Click to Launch “Get Windows 10”, and click on the Menu below to expand.

 

Step 3. Click on “View Confirmation” as shown below.

 

Step 4. This will open the below prompt. Select “Cancel reservation”.

 

Step 5. Microsoft will ask you again, select “Cancel reservation”. This will stop the automatic upgrade from Microsoft on July 29.
