Educational Symposium

Advanced Analytical Microscopy of Metals

Tuesday, September 10 - ZEISS Microscopy Customer Center New York

Metallography is the eyesight of the metallurgist, providing insight into the micro and nano worlds, generating actionable information for a huge variety of industrial needs. As mobility, construction, infrastructure and resource efficiency needs evolve, researchers push the boundaries of what is achievable in metals engineering. Advanced analytical microscopy is a critical enabler to the routine and advanced research needs in steel, aluminum, light metals, and other advanced materials.

Discover the new advances in routine and advanced microscopy now available to metallographers, and the capability available for advanced characterisation of metals from the macro to nano scale, in Imaging, Measurement, Chemistry, Crystallography, Structures and Processes. Powerful new solutions such as machine learning, FIB-SEM, spectroscopy and topography are offered to measure and characterise at different length scales, connected and automated for precise repeatable information generation, such as purity, grain structure, porosity and mechanical properties of advanced high strength steels and other alloys.

Meeting Objectives:

  • Advanced techniques for analysis of metals
  • How to improve routine metals quality assurance – metal production, usage and recycling
  • New developments in metals microscopy and new capabilities

Refreshments and lunch will be provided. Additional travel expenses including air and hotel costs will need to be covered by attendees.
