ZEISS Microhardness Workflow

Vickers and Knoop hardness tests use a diamond indenter with a known force to make an indent into the sample and measuring the size of this indent allows one to determine the hardness of the material. Determining microhardness can be helpful when macrohardness tests are difficult to perform and can be used to check for carburization and decarburization, test the condition of heat-affected zones, and assess the state of certain hardened components.

To streamline this process, this workflow allows for manual distance measurements that ensure accuracy in calculating the hardness of the sample. 

This type of customizable analysis allows for lean reporting and only includes information of interest.

Workflow

The module workflow consists of a number of steps:

  2. Selection of microhardness indend to analyze
  3. Input load mass and hardness measurement method
  4. Manual placement of distance annotation to ensure analysis completed on regions of interest
  5. Ability to perform analysis on several indentations in a single run-through
  6. Complete reporting of individual measurements and overview statistics
