Did you know …

… that ZEISS lenses might save you a trip to the osteopath?

Part 4: Did you know …

… that ZEISS lenses might save you a trip to the osteopath?

One out of every two people spends their working day in front of a computer. To make sure they can see the screen properly, they often involuntarily adopt awkward body postures that can lead to neck or back muscle strain. ZEISS has developed lenses to alleviate this situation: ZEISS Office Lenses. Designed specifically for computer and office work, they put an end to bad posture and muscle tension.

Many people who spend most of their working day in front of a computer complain of neck, back or shoulder strain. They often have to devote their full attention to their screen for many hours on end. In the evening when they get home after work, sometimes even during the course of the working day, they notice the result: muscle strain in their neck, back or shoulders. One of the reasons may be that they are wearing the wrong glasses.

Are reading or progressive lenses ideal for computer work?

Posture with reading glasses

Posture with reading glasses

No. Working at a computer means that our eyes have to adapt to a special working distance. Reading lenses are designed for short viewing distances, which are shorter than the distance between a computer and our eyes. Therefore, if we are wearing reading lenses, we automatically move closer to the screen. Adopting this unnatural posture for long periods of time may lead to neck and back strain.

Posture with progressive lenses

Posture with progressive lenses

With progressive lenses, the situation is very different. As progressive lenses support vision at all viewing ranges through specific zones on the lens, we use the lower part of the lens to see clearly when working at a computer. This means we raise our heads, which can once again lead to muscle strain in the neck and shoulder areas.

The solution: Officelens for natural vision at the workplace

The better our glasses are adapted to the situation of use, the more relaxed our body posture will be in the workplace. ZEISS Officelens offers a large visual field for both near vision and – most importantly for computer work or for talking to business partners – the intermediate viewing range. This means they are optimized for vision over a range measuring between 1.5 and 13 feet. The effortless use of the specially adapted visual zones allows us to sit comfortably with a relaxed posture.

And that is by no means all: as the ranges of vision and viewing task requirements differ from one person to another, there are three different lens types. With professional fitting, ZEISS Officelens can even be adapted to your personal visual habits with accuracy down to half an inch.

“I want to see my patients, look at computers and still walk around the room comfortably.

That’s why I wear ZEISS Officelens myself.”

“I wear the Officelens myself and I can tell you my firsthand experience: I think the thing that impressed me the most about it was just being able to walk - which sounds simple enough, but traditionally there is a kind of visual uneasiness when you’re walking around with these type of lenses on.”
