An antiviral coating for eyeglass lenses?

Microbes are all around and they can stick and survive on surfaces over time – also on spectacle lenses.

In multi-year cooperation with Germany-based Furtwangen University and its Institute of Precision Medicine, ZEISS Vision Care has issued the most comprehensive studies so far to understand the microbial contamination of spectacle lenses. In an interview, Professor Egert from Furtwangen University explains why lens hygiene is so important. In this article you will learn how to reduce germs on eyeglass lenses and frames.

Besides these cleaning solutions, there are more ways to reduce microbes: For example, the idea of using metals, including silver, against microorganisms is ancient. In the background article, you can read more about silver as the traditional antiviral and antimicrobial agent and its tremendous increase in medical, life science and hygienic applications in the past 10 years.

In the press release, you can read how silver is embedded in ZEISS DuraVision AntiVirus Platinum UV coating and how the premium coating brings some more prevention in everyday life.
