ZEISS EYEWEAR
The Collection.
The innovative ZEISS EYEWEAR Architekt Kollektion line of eyewear was envisioned by architect and designer Elmar Gauggel, and made a reality by ZEISS EYEWEAR. It features eight frames, each distinct and striking.
The Architekt Kollektion combines bold creativity and meticulous precision. It includes full-rimmed and supra styles, standard glasses and sunglasses, and men’s, women’s and unisex models. And as a special touch: each frame is named after a renowned architect: Alvar, Elmar, Gustave, Margarete, Oscar, Toyo, Walter and Zaha.
The Models.
The Designer.
Elmar Gauggel is an acclaimed architect and designer, and founder of architectural firm Labor Weltenbau, in Stuttgart, Germany. He has won multiple awards for his iconic designs for products, trade fairs, showrooms and retail environments.
Gauggel has collaborated with ZEISS since 2004, and was recently responsible for planning and implementing ZEISS Vision Centres around the world. The Architekt Kollektion marks his first venture into eyewear. It incorporates his signature style, and breaks down the boundaries between architecture and optics – and between traditional design and emerging technologies.
The Vision.
Architekt Kollektion unites Gauggel’s creative flair and architectural experience with ZEISS’s 170-year history of outstanding ophthalmological and optical solutions. Its design language makes a strong statement, and sets the wearer apart.
The line is Gauggel’s interpretation of how high-quality, contemporary eyewear should look, feel and function, given today’s availability of computer-aided design, modern materials and new manufacturing techniques.
ZEISS EYEWEAR took Gauggel’s vision, and developed corresponding technical designs and identified suitable materials. The result is beautiful, practical products that remain true to the original concept.
The Technologies.
All ZEISS EYEWEAR is made to the highest standards using advanced materials and processes. The choice of materials and technologies reflects Gauggel’s architectural background and ZEISS’s pursuit of perfection.
3D Printed Models
For example, selected Architekt Kollektion models are 3D-printed. This opens up new possibilities in design, and eliminates the need for moulds and cutting templates. Frame parts are created by sintering a polyamide powder, layer by layer. It is time-efficient, and minimises waste, as any excess material is reused. Moreover, the resulting frame bears 3D printing’s typical texture.
Titanium Material
A further innovative material featured in Architekt Kollektion models is titanium. These parts are laser welded, eliminating weak points at joints – a flaw often associated with conventional titanium frames. While titanium remains a notoriously difficult material to work with, it offers a number of benefits for eyewear: it is light, flexible, durable and corrosion-resistant.
High Quality Products
As with all ZEISS eyewear, the Architekt Kollektion models undergo extensive quality control, are nickel-free and hypoallergenic, and comply with all applicable ISO and EN standards.
The Creation.
ZEISS EYEWEAR frames are manufactured and distributed exclusively by STEPPER. The idea is to create a range of the finest quality men’s and women’s frames constructed from the best materials to reflect the precision, the excellence and the perfect individualised fit of ZEISS optical and sunglass lenses.
Innovative and technically advanced manufacturing knowledge and processes by STEPPER ensure ZEISS EYEWEAR frames are constructed to the highest standards.
