ZEISS single vision with spherical lens design are the classic product to correct ametropia or to use as single vision reading glasses. Available in both plastic and glass materials, this point focal lens design offers good optical performance for mild prescriptions.
The ZEISS spherical single vision lens design is an exactl-computed point focal lens design which minimizes peripheral blur i.
The foundations for this design where laid by Moritz von Rohr - a scientific member of the Carl Zeiss company - in 1908. He was the first to calculate a spherical single vision lens that was also optimized for larger viewing angles.
ZEISS Single Vision Sph 1.50 was the first lens made of the organic material CR 39 to be included in the ZEISS product range. Today, it is our classic lightweight plastic lens. The option of tinting provides wearers of single vision plastic lenses with a wide range of single color, bicolor or graduated tints. Along with the OPTIMA thickness reduction system and optimized diameters, outstanding wearing comfort can be acheived.
Due to their low density, ZEISS Single Vision Sph 1.50 lenses are up to 40% lighter than ZEISS Single Vision Sph Mineral 1.50 lenses of the same power
Over the years, intensive research and development work has resulted in plastic lenses with higher refractive indices. This means that patients with high prescriptions can also now enjoy the benefits of a cosmetically attractive, lightweight lens with ZEISS Single Vision Sph 1.53, 1.59, 1.60, 1.67, and 1.74.
Thanks to its high refractive index, these Single Vision lenses are thinner and lighter than mineral lens with the same dioptric power.
The launch of ZEISS Punktal in 1912 dramatically improved the quality of eyeglass lenses. At the time, mathematical computation of lens design and high volume lens production was practically unknown. With Punktal lenses, eyeglass wearers became aware for the first time how important high quality lenses were for good vision.
With a refractive index of 1.50, the ZEISS Single Vision Sph Mineral 1.50 lens is recommended for prescriptions from sph -3.00 D to sph +2.00 D.
ZEISS is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of eyeglass lenses, and is committed to delivering maximum precision and comfort. ZEISS designs and produces lenses, instruments and measurement systems, as well as retail concepts and technology services that continue to raise the bar in vision care.
