An Invisible Force

Nature is bursting with resilience. Just keep your eyes open and you'll spot it in the water, up in the air and on the ground. Take these three examples: with the help of certain types of coral, reefs near the Maldives are defying elevated water temperatures. The coral might bleach for a time, but it might just be able to withstand climate change.

Come rain or shine, the hummingbird turns out to be a reliable pollinator in the mountainous forests of South America, making it indispensable for a wide range of plants. And in the Namib Desert, the head-stander beetle has learned to collect water from fog. These natural strategies all illustrate one thing: if you want to survive, you have to be resilient. The same applies to companies. And ZEISS is no exception: it needs to develop a variety of different strengths, too.

This is a matter of utilizing available resources and increasing cost awareness. Moreover, it's a question of driving targeted investments and innovations. It's precisely the many facets of resilience we want to present to you in this edition of ZOOM. With this in mind: let yourself be inspired!
