ZEISS, in partnership with Seiler Planetarium, has successfully installed a state-of-the-art ZEISS SKYMASTER ZKP 4 LED star projector at Southwestern College (SWC) in Chula Vista, California. This landmark installation replaces the planetariums historic projector, bringing an unparalleled, true-to-life night sky to the next generation of students and space enthusiasts.
For nearly six decades, the SWC Planetarium relied on a beloved Spitz A3P system to inspire the community. When the time came to modernize, the Southwestern College team established three strict pillars for their new system: uncompromised starfield quality, intuitive usability, and unsurpassed longevity. The ZEISS ZKP 4 LED emerged as the perfect solution to fulfill all three criteria.

Unrivaled Star Quality: The projector displays roughly 7,000 individual stars—matching the exact limit of what the human eye can perceive under optimal conditions. Utilizing dedicated optical fibers, each star is illuminated with pure white light, rendering the Milky Way, nebulae, and distant galaxies in breathtaking detail.
Built for Live Presentations: Operating via the advanced ZEISS skycontrol software and a tactile Manual Control Panel, the system allows educators to easily pivot between automated shows and live, improvised presentations that adapt to real-time cosmic events and audience questions.
Decades of Reliability: Designed to stand the test of time, the energy-efficient LED light sources boast a service life of approximately 60,000 hours. This ensures more than 20 years of brilliant, daily operations without the need for frequent technical overhauls.
