After the Second World War and the separation of Germany, the ZEISS factories, both in Jena and in Oberkochen, produced planetarium projectors up until the reunification of Germany. The large planetarium models of one development series from Oberkochen were designated with Roman numerals. The first two Zeiss planetariums for Munich and The Hague were given the designation Model I only later, just as the projectors with the more universal dumbbell shape from the 1920s and 1930s were designated as Model II only later.

The post-war Oberkochen Model III from 1958, recognizable by its supports with the lattice structure, was based on the Model II designs with some technical innovations. It would soon be replaced by the newly designed Model IV in 1962. Model III was used in the planetariums in London, Sao Paulo, Baton Rouge and Johannesburg.
