The treatment of brain metastases with IORT from the perspective of a neurosurgeon and a radiation oncologist

In this clinical talk, Stephanie E. Combs, MD and Bernhard Meyer, MD are speaking about the treatment of brain metastases applying intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) while focusing on rationale, guideline and clinical evidence.

In the first part, Bernhard Meyer introduces the different treatment options for brain metastases while highlighting the importance of an interdisciplinary approach. Following, he explains in detail when and why IORT is selected for the treatment of brain metastases from a neurosurgical perspective. In the second part, Stephanie E. Combs presents the status quo of the clinical evidence for the different treatment options of brain metastases. She also gives detailed clinical insights in the latest IORT data and points out the main advantages of IORT after surgical resection. At last, the IORT treatment workflow is illustrated by Bernhard Meyer. The talk is followed by a Q&A session.
