Enhancing myopia control by reducing adaptation

Dynamic signal variation
6 ottobre 2026 · 4 MIN LETTURA

ZEISS MyoActive lens incorporating ZEISS M.O.V.E. (Micro Optical Variable Elements) technology is the new benchmark in myopia management, designed to generate non-repetitive, spatially variant, dynamic signals to reduce adaptation and increase myopia control efficacy.

Why dynamic signals?

Indoor environments and sustained near work may expose the eye to more homogenous, high contrast visual patterns causing the eye/retina to adapt and lead to myopia progression.

ZEISS MyoActive myopia management lens has a 7 mm central zone that corrects for distance refractive error (clear zone) and a treatment-zone concentric to the central zone with micro-optical cylinders of powers from +1.50 D to +5.50 D (Figure 1), deliberately arranged such that they are non-aligned along any meridian and deliver a spatially variant signal to the eye.

Efficacy data for ZEISS MyoActive with ZEISS M.O.V.E. technology[1].

At 12 months, ZEISS MyoActive demonstrated the highest efficacy among myopia control spectacle lenses, with 0.60 D less myopia progression and 0.22 mm less axial elongation than a single vision lens (NCT06563700).

Figure 2. Myopia progression (in spherical equivalent refractive error and axial length change) with ZEISS MyoActive lenses versus single vision at 6 and 12 months.

*With ZEISS MyoActive, mean progression was -0.23 D/year, which is less than the 0.25 D increment step used in subjective refraction, indicating no progression of clinical relevance.

Safety, adaptation, and wearability.

  • ZEISS MyoActive was safe to use, with no reported adverse events.
  • Most children (98.2%) adapted to ZEISS MyoActive within one week, and achieved daily wearing time similar to a single vision lens.
  • Wearer experience of visual clarity with ZEISS MyoActive for all viewing distances was high (> 9 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 = excellent).
  • Children could see just as clearly straight ahead with ZEISS MyoActive lenses as they could with standard single vision lenses, although side vision was slightly reduced by about 3 to 4 letters. After 12 months, all children said they liked wearing ZEISS MyoActive lenses, and 85.7% said they liked them very much.[1]
