The Zeiss Planetarium Model IV was a new construction in the mid-1950s. The typical ladder-like support structure of the first large planetariums was replaced by modern supports. A total of 18 units were installed, mostly in large cities, starting in 1957. Their lifetime of 30 to more than 50 years is remarkable. Some projectors of the model series IV are still in use today.
