The Nagoya City Science Museum houses the world's largest planetarium, with a dome 35 meters in diameter. The original planetarium was opened in 1962. Following the renovation of the Astronomy and Science and Technology Buildings, the new planetarium was opened in March 2011. It was built to replicate an actual starry sky as accurately as possible. The ZEISS UNIVERSARIUM Mark IX planetarium projector is specially designed to meet the requirements for the extra large dome.
