Asking the Big Questions

Research & Development

Even as a child, Thilo was fascinated by how things work. This curiosity accompanied him throughout his physics studies and his doctorate in engineering sciences, right into his professional life. After gaining valuable experience in mechatronic concept development for several years, the transition to systems engineering was, in retrospect, a decisive step for Thilo, as he wants to explore the interface between development and customers and understand the real needs that products must fulfill. "While the developers are trying to build a product correctly, we ensure that we are building the right product," the physicist simplifies the complex job of a systems engineer.

Since April of this year, Thilo has been responsible for the EUV (which stands for extreme ultraviolet light) sector. As a program systems engineer, he oversees all products in this business line. Additionally, Thilo is part of the ZEISS Expert Ladder.

"The collaboration with our customers is fantastic. There is a great deal of trust and intense personal exchange," he emphasizes. In addition to technical expertise, communication skills and the ability to convey complex issues understandably are particularly important.

You won't find a competitive mentality in our team. We work together to create something great.

Every Beginning Doesn’t Have to Be Difficult

It is in the nature of a physicist to explore connections and try out new ideas – his job provides the right environment for this. "You won't find a competitive mentality in our team. We work together to create something great," he says.

Today, Thilo supports students and young professionals in their development, fosters exchange, and shares his wealth of experience. He advises young talents to trust themselves more and not to be afraid of seemingly "stupid questions." "More often than one might think, you find no one who has the answers to them..." he chuckles.
