- Le metastasi ossee nei pazienti con cancro sistemico si manifestano frequentemente nella colonna vertebrale. La sopravvivenza globale mediana dei pazienti con metastasi ossee è di soli 7-9 mesi1 mentre alcuni di questi pazienti (con entità primarie che rispondono al trattamento sistemico) possono sopravvivere per oltre un decennio.
- Al fine di stabilizzare e sterilizzare istantaneamente i corpi vertebrali colpiti, la cifoplastica combinata e la radioterapia intraoperatoria (cifo-IORT) forniscono una promettente opzione di trattamento locale in alternativa alla radioterapia a fasci esterni (EBRT) come standard di cura.
- In questa valutazione degli esiti a lungo termine, viene esaminata la più grande coorte attualmente esistente, con 104 pazienti trattati con cifo-IORT tra il 2009 e il 2019.
