Nikos Hatzakis

Professor, University of Copenhagen, CSO and Co-founder, EDGE Biotechnologies.Hey, I am Nikos, and my work is driven by a simple question: how do molecules behave inside living cells?

As a Professor at the University of Copenhagen, I focus on understanding biological processes at the most fundamental level, one molecule at a time. In parallel, as CSO and Co-founder of EDGE Biotechnologies, I help translate cutting-edge scientific advances into practical solutions for the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. At EDGE Biotechnologies, we provide single-cell imaging and AI-based analysis services that help companies understand drug delivery, cellular uptake, and cellular responses, supporting more informed drug discovery and candidate selection.

"From Photons to Decisions, Bridging Frontier Research with Biopharma" is a vision that captures my approach: combining advanced microscopy with machine learning to directly observe biological phenomena in real time. Business Developer, ZEISS Nordics

I am a Business Developer for ZEISS Microscopy in the Nordics, where I work closely with researchers and industry partners to identify and develop tailored imaging solutions.
My focus is on advanced microscopy technologies, supporting customers in implementing solutions ranging from confocal and electron microscopy to integrated imaging workflows. I am passionate about turning complex imaging challenges into practical and high-quality results. I am actively engaged in the microscopy community and regularly contribute to workshops and events, where I share insights into the latest developments and applications in imaging technologies.

Sebastian Markert

Application Specialist, ZEISS

Whatever the biological sample, I love to talk about it. And I love to take images of it. Especially with (but not limited to) advanced 3D electron microscopy techniques like Array Tomography or Serial Block Face Scanning Electron Microscopy. I am a biologist and Nachwuchsprofessor at the HTW Saar in Saarbrücken, as well as an Application Specialist at ZEISS Microscopy in Oberkochen. You will always see me wearing a bow tie.

Abel Pereira da Graça​

Application Specialist​, ZEISS - LM / Elyra 7 / Lightsheet 7

Hey! I am Abel and my microscopic journey took flight, when I first saw the inner life of a cell during my studies back then at the university. As my knowledge expanded, so did my fascination in visualizing the smallest processes on a variety of different microscopes, each revealing unique insights into the previously unseen. This passion matured along my PhD at the Max Planck Institute for molecular Biomedicine and turned into a professional career as a Senior Application Specialist at the ZEISS Microscopy Customer Center Europe. Here, I’m responsible for the Super-Resolution and Lightsheet systems. I cordially invite you to join me as we explore together the fascinating discoveries that lie within your research.

Mirjam Geibel​

Application Specialist, ZEISS​ - LSM​

Hey, I am Mirjam and I am an application specialist at ZEISS microscopy, with a specialization in confocal microscopy. Prior to joining ZEISS I worked as PhD student and Postdoc in Neurobiology and Circadian Biology in labs located in Italy, Scotland, and Germany. Although microscopy was only one of the many techniques I used in the lab, I have always been deeply fascinated by being able to visualize processes and structures fundamental to life. ​
In my current role in the Customer Center, what I enjoy most is the opportunity to meet and engage with customers from diverse research backgrounds and from different regions around the world. This allows me to learn about their unique perspectives and collaborate with them to address their microscopy needs.

Noemi Castroviejo Jimenez

Application Specialist​, ZEISS - Lightsheet 7​ - Data Analyst​

I am a skilled researcher with a background in biotechnology and developmental biology. As an Application Specialist at ZMCCE, my primary objective is to assist scientists in overcoming their daily challenges by providing them with the tools and solutions they need to extract valuable data from their research. My expertise ranges from image acquisition using Lightsheet 7 to image analysis and data visualization using ARIVIS software. During my doctoral research at the Institute of Neuroscience in Alicante, Spain, I worked extensively with zebrafish as a model organism where I gained a deep understanding of developmental processes and the significance of advanced microscopy techniques in research. This inspired me to pursue a scientific career dedicated to providing researchers with turnkey solutions that help them see their data as never before.

Steffen Burgold

Application Specialist, ZEISS ​- LSM/LatticeLS7

I am senior application specialist at ZMCCE with about 20 years of hands-on experience in microscopy (7 of them at ZEISS). My interdisciplinary background in biotechnology and photonics helps me to first understand the customers research goals and second to find the right imaging solution for them. During my PhD in neurobiology, I studied structural plasticity and protein aggregation intravitally in mouse models of Alzheimer disease. At ZMCCE I am responsible for all laser scanning microscopes, including specialised topics such as spectral imaging, spectroscopic methods and multiphoton imaging. Furthermore, I support correlative microscopy applications (e.g. cyro workflow, classical LM to EM and LM to LM) as well as the lattice lightsheet. I actually love all microscopy applications, but the more demanding, the better.

Srinath Ramkumar​

Application Specialist, ZEISS - LM​ Automated

I’m an Application Specialist at Zeiss Microscopy Customer Center Europe with a background in developmental and regenerative biology and experienced in generating automated end-to-end workflows from image acquisition to data visualization. During my PhD at the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research, I uncovered the beauty of microscopy while attempting to understand the dynamics of extracellular matrix during zebrafish cardiac development and regeneration. Following which as an Imaging Specialist at the same institute, I enabled other researchers to streamline their image acquisition and analysis by designing customized and automated workflows. My experiences help me bring a unique blend of academic knowledge, technical expertise, and practical skills for a high standard of scientific integrity and throughput.

 

Claudia Kaestner​

Application Specialist​, ZEISS - Lattice SIM Family

I am an experienced Application Specialist at ZEISS Microscopy, where I am responsible for providing tailored demonstrations of super-resolution microscopy solutions using structured illumination (SIM). Prior to joining ZEISS in 2021, I worked as a Research Specialist in the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton University. With a PhD from Freie Universität Berlin, I have a strong background in Chemistry and bring a deep understanding of advanced microscopy techniques to my role.

Karin Friedrich​

Coordinator, ZEISS​ - Microscopy Customer Center Europe

I started at ZEISS in International Sales and Marketing, where I was responsible for planning demos and executing customer events. This role gave me direct contact with our customers – a part of my job that I particularly enjoyed and found very rewarding. With the opening of the Microscopy Customer Center Europe I had the opportunity to take over the position of a Demo Lab Coordinator. In this role, I support the planning of demonstrations and ensure the timely receipt and return of our customers' samples. My goal is to ensure that our guests feel welcome in our Customer Center and to be a reliable point of contact for their questions and concerns at all times.
