Making Recycling Even Easier: ZEISS Vision Care Introduces Sorting Guide “DigiDot” for ZEISS Lens Wipe Sachets

Early 2026, ZEISS Vision Care presented its new recyclable sachets for ZEISS Lens Wipes – an important step to reduce the environmental impact of packaging. Building on this milestone, ZEISS Vision Care is now integrating the DigiDot QR code on the packaging of the sachets to provide consumers with clear, location-specific guidance for proper recycling.

From recyclable packaging to smarter recycling

With the introduction of recyclable sachets, ZEISS Vision Care is responding to growing demand for more sustainable solutions around eyewear care. This industry-first packaging underlines ZEISS’ ambition to deliver best-in-class product quality while demonstrating a high level of environmental responsibility. The next logical step is therefore the integration of DigiDot by the Green Dot Company, so the benefits of this new packaging can be fully realized in practice.

Empowering consumers through digital guidance

ZEISS Vision Care has long provided disposal instructions on its packaging in alignment with local guidelines. But for products available in many markets, static information reaches its limits: recycling and sorting systems vary by country and sometimes even by region – one of the challenges in recycling. With the DigiDot integration ZEISS therefore helps provide guidance and will enable consumers initially in 21 EU countries from mid-2026 onwards to access digital, region-specific instructions for correctly sorting and disposing of each packaging component by scanning the DigiDot QR code.

For eye care professionals (ECPs) on the other hand, DigiDot is an added advantage because it makes communication about recycling at the point of sale easier and more tangible. By giving consumers access to clear, region-specific sorting guidance via a simple scan, it helps reduce questions around disposal, supports more informed conversations and reinforces the perception of the ECP as a forward-thinking partner that combines product quality with practical recycling support.

“As a foundation-owned company, it is part of our DNA to embed responsibility in everything we do and beyond. That means not only developing recyclable packaging but also providing consumers with clear guidance on proper disposal and recycling. While the sachets already reduce environmental impact through their design and materials, DigiDot helps maximize recyclability in practice – in a simple way. Integrating DigiDot is therefore an important step, and looking ahead, we aim to extend this approach to additional product categories,” says Andrew Ivers, Head of Global Marketing Lens Care at ZEISS Vision Care.

In the DACH region, the recyclable sachets – and therefore DigiDot – will be available from mid-2026. Expansion to additional markets will be planned and implemented step by step.

About DigiDot
DigiDot is a digital sorting guide from Der Grüne Punkt that helps consumers sort packaging correctly and direct it to the appropriate recycling collection. Through product-specific sorting instructions, DigiDot bridges the gap between theoretical recyclability and actual recycling – thereby addressing one of the key barriers to high-quality recycled materials. With EU-wide coverage of country-specific collection and sorting systems, DigiDot can be directly linked to the requirements of the EU Packaging Directive regarding consumer information and labeling, thereby creating a scalable bridge between legal requirements, brand communication, and actual sorting behavior.
