ZEISS presents OMNIA GC 220-180: Large-scale automated X-ray inspection
- Space-saving solution for the inspection of large castings with optimized defect detection speed
- Maximum flexibility thanks to unlimited inspection angles and powerful image processing tools
- Fully Automated Defect Recognition and easy integration into existing production lines
With OMNIA GC 220-180, ZEISS is launching a new 2D X-ray inspection system that has been specially developed to meet the requirements of modern high-volume production in the automotive industry. The fully automated solution enables high-precision inspection of large-format aluminum castings - for example battery trays or front and rear underbody structural components - in inline or atline operation.

The fully automated solution enables high-precision inspection of large-format aluminum castings.
Powerful automation for gigacasting components
ZEISS OMNIA GC 220-180 combines state-of-the-art hardware with in-house developed software and is therefore optimally designed for the non-destructive testing of large, complex structures:
- Inspection volume up to 2200 × 1800 × 900 mm with a relatively compact footprint (only 5 × 2.7 m)
- Cycle times of just 3-3.5 seconds per view - ideal for high-volume production1
- ADR software FARIS with integrated ASTM evaluation and classification, image optimization and defect simulation
Maximum flexibility with minimum space requirements
Thanks to its modular design, available as a single or double door version, the system can be perfectly adapted to different production scenarios. The cartesian axis kinematics, the double tilting of the X-ray source and detector up to ±45° and the combination with variable focus detector distance (FDD) of both X-ray source and Flat panel detector, allow the inspection of even hard-to-reach component areas.
Intuitive operation - no teach pendant required
CNC-supported programming is quick and easy thanks to a user-friendly graphical interface. An anti-crash simulation additionally speeds up programming set-up and eliminates the risk of collision completely, while real-time monitoring and diagnostic functions increase process reliability.
One-stop solution - available worldwide
As a complete solution, ZEISS offers not only system and software, but also service, training and support - worldwide through over 245 partners and 64 Quality Excellence Centers. Customers benefit from:
- Long-term investment security thanks to ZEISS' own generators
- Short response times thanks to local service teams and spare parts warehouse
- Compatibility with existing quality assurance processes and databases
Future-proof quality assurance for large castings
With OMNIA GC 220-180, ZEISS is setting new standards in the automated X-ray inspection of large aluminum castings. The system is now available worldwide.
