ZEISS microscope bridges science and art at World Expo in Japan
Collaboration partner Magnificent Matter displays live microscopic images accompanied by classical music in the German PavilionZEISS is honored to announce its participation in the World Expo 2025, taking place in Osaka, Japan, under the transformative theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” This prestigious event promises to be a landmark occasion where global knowledge and cutting-edge technology unite to address humanity’s most pressing challenges.
A visionary blend of art and science
ZEISS will contribute to the global dialogue of Expo 2025 through its advanced microscopy solutions, fostering exchange and collaboration in both science and art. From September 9 to 13, the German Pavilion will host an art performance that connects macrocosm and microcosm, brought to life through a collaboration between the German artist collective Magnificent Matter and ZEISS.
This performance will unveil live microscopic images, created by merging diverse liquids under the ZEISS Axioscope light microscope, crafting a captivating visual spectacle. Accompanied by the classical compositions of pianist, singer, and composer Sofi Paez, this artistic presentation offers visitors a unique experience that seamlessly integrates art and technology.

About Expo 2025
The Osaka-Kansai World Expo 2025 aims to bring the international community together, providing a platform where the latest technology and innovations contribute to achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals. The theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” emphasizes global collaboration in health, sustainability, and digital innovation, encouraging deeper reflection on how we choose to live and how we can collectively shape a sustainable society. The Expo’s theme is further explored through three interrelated subthemes: “Saving Lives,” “Empowering Lives,” and “Connecting Lives.”
The theme of the German Pavilion is Circular Economy, and the title is “Wa! Germany.” The German Pavilion is itself an example of circular and sustainable construction. It fuses architecture, landscape, and exhibition into a whole and, through a unique visitor experience, showcases pathways to a circular future.
