The annual WTT-Forum was hosted at the Innovation Hub mid may. As part of the forum the Technology Transfer Award was granted to the Center for Applied Photonik (CAP) of the University of Konstanz, the Chair of Ultrafast Physics and Photonics as well as TOPTICA Photonics AG.

We welcomed more than 60 participants for a weekend full of coding, programming, knowledge exchange and good food at the ZEISS Innovation Hub @KIT. Equipped with AI-empowered cameras, microscopes, 3D-printers, VR glasses and the expertise of our mentors, the hackers came up with outstanding results.

We are proud to announce that one of the hub employee wins this year’s SICK science award for the Best Dissertation. Tobias Harter wrote his dissertation "Wireless Terahertz Communications: Optoelectronic Devices and Signal Processing" at the Institute of Photonics and Quantum Electronics (https://www.ipq.kit.edu) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.  

Under the supervision of Prof. Christian Koos he worked on novel optoelectronic devices and signal processing schemes for ultra-broadband wireless data transmission. Broadband communication systems are essential to handle the enormous increase in data originating from the digitalization of our society. At the ZEISS innovation hub Tobias now continues exploring new technologies and application fields in close collaboration with KIT researchers.

This time, Ralph Henn, PhD Student in the group of Prof. Terzidis, Institute of Entrepreneurship, Technology-Management and Innovation (EnTechnon), will give an overview on his research about Karlsruhe as an example of an entrepreneurial ecosystem. Ralph is interested and experienced in the entrepreneurship and start-up culture since his undergrad studies, gaining experience as a start-up consultant at the Pioniergarage.

Scantinel Photonics is a spin-off of the ZEISS Group. Their technology relies on coherent (FMCW) LiDAR to generate three-dimensional images of the environment, to generate a base for reliable autonomous navigation.
