Committed to fresh perspectives

Field Service

MinKyue knows the value of going the extra mile: “I strive to earn the trust of customers by utilizing my full potential.” His international outlook and his love of open dialog underpin his ability to form lasting connections and pinpoint new approaches. At ZEISS, he values the way his colleagues learn from each other both personally and professionally.

Unique opportunity

While majoring in electronic engineering at university, MinKyue began to focus on semiconductors and recognized their potential. Four years after completing his studies, he joined ZEISS as a field service engineer in 2022. “And I would have applied sooner if I’d known about the role,” he adds with a grin.

Given its exclusive photomask repair concept, which combines scanning electron microscope (SEM) and gas flow technology, ZEISS represented an unmissable opportunity for this semiconductor specialist. He is delighted to have joined the semiconductor segment of a global leader in such a dynamic phase, since this fast-evolving environment is driven by open-minded and proactive problem-solving.

The engineers who support me locally are more than my colleagues. They are my friends.

Always learning

MinKyue consistently expands his expertise. When discussing his work, which involves installing equipment and conducting performance tests in a semiconductor fabrication plant (or “fab”), he emphasizes a tandem program, which pairs junior colleagues with more experienced ZEISS engineers at work. This sees junior colleagues being paired with more experienced engineers when attending callouts to ensure an active transfer of knowledge. Best of all, he says, this encourages a mutual sharing of ideas that “stops people getting stuck in their ways.”

MinKyue appreciates how the approach to communication boosts his confidence, knowing that it can sometimes be difficult for younger employees to raise issues with more experienced colleagues. Having personally performed both the senior and junior engineer roles, he is convinced that everyone benefits “from the broader viewpoint this exchange provides.”

The key to building trust

In a move that reflects his commitment to adding value, he has taken initiative by creating reports on the issues resolved by his team. This ensures a transparent process that provides long-term benefit to customers – and he finds it to be “one of the most satisfying aspects” of his job.

MinKyue is passionate about making new connections, both locally and internationally. He has established a deep bond with the German engineers who have worked alongside him in South Korea and on his visits to company headquarters. Aiming to expand his horizons beyond South Korea and become “a global engineer with an impact on the Asia-Pacific market and more,” he has joined a fortnightly English-speaking meet-up in his spare time to further the language skills he uses every day at work. For MinKyue, communication and transparency are key to building trust.
